London / Dortmund. The “CC-Booster” (“Comfort Controller”) switchgear with the innovatively programmed control for pressure boosting systems of the Dortmund-based pump expert WILO AG has been voted the Product of the Year 2008 at the Building Services Awards in London.

The reputed Building Services Award was established by the “Building Services Journal” and the “Electrical & Mechanical Contractor”, two British trade magazines for building services. Now in its eleventh year, the top-class jury rewards products in 17 different categories, acknowledging top performances and innovative strength of companies in building services.

There was one novelty this year: for the very first time, also the readers of the two trade journals were asked to nominate the product they felt had made the biggest impact on the sector. They were asked to evaluate which product invigorated building services most. After a hot-fought contest, as the organisers called it, Wilo’s “CC-Booster” succeeded and won the highly sought-after prize “Product of the Year 2008”.

The “CC-Booster” controls up to six single pumps of a pressure boosting system in a fully automatic way. Its core piece is a specially programmed control (SPS) by Wilo which influences the base-load pump’s speed by means of a frequency converter and switches on or off additional peak-load pumps when required. The pumps are operated in a silent and energy-saving way. The manufacturer’s long-term experience in pump control proves itself in the programming which ensures smooth control and monitoring algorithms. A multifunctional touch screen in the switch cabinet door facilitates the operation of the “CC-Booster”. It can moreover be integrated into building management systems by means of optionally available modules.

Pressure boosting systems are used for pumping potable water, water for fire-fighting, secondary hot water or service water in larger buildings such as hotels, hospitals and administration buildings as well as in industrial installations. In Greater London and in South-East England the installations from Wilo are used especially in numerous skyscraper projects.

The ceremony of the 2008 Building Services Award took place at the London Grosvenor House Hotel. The award was handed over to Managing Director of Wilo UK, Stuart Herritty, and Sales Manager Dan Wild. “This award,” says Stuart Herritty, “is a testament to the quality of the team we have working in the company, as well as to the quality of the products Wilo manufactures.”
